Too Many Dogs

I wouldn't want to say anything negative about Brazil, but I know more families who have four or more dogs than I do families that don't have a dog. There are no leash laws. The police would just laugh if I complained about barking dogs. Most people have fences, and the dogs are fierce when barking at me through the fences. There are many "abandonado" on the street, or let loose to run. Fortunately, they haven't given us any problems on the street. This nine dog parade (we didn't get them all in one photo) was early on a Sunday morning, and they mostly had the street to themselves. They traveled from one side of town to the other, then turned around and went back.

Don't worry about the dogs, all you need to do is pretend to pick up a rock and the will all run away. Trust me I think I only had to throw one actual rock my entire mission. But imaginary ones were countless.

I don't like dogs. Thanks to my wonderful parent's who never let me have one growing up, I am now terrified and disgusted by the ugly creatures.

Congratulations on being in Brazil! I cannot believe how much has gone on. You are such wonderful people and have a wonderful family. Thank you so much for letting me spend time in your home so many years ago. :)

So happy to read of your great happiness in Brazil. It was wonderful to see the picture of your beautiful family. As Pres. Hinckley said: things will work out. And they do work out the best for those who love the Lord. tt2y'all

Oi Elder e Sister Baird! Como vocês estão? Como está o português? I enjoy reading your experience in Brazil. Those crazy dogs made me laugh... Things are great here in Provo, I still teach at the MTC and I am almost done with school. Camila is doing her Masters in Portuguese teaching at BYU. She is also teaching Portuguese 101! Não se esqueçam de tomar sorvete de milho verde e de comer chocolate por mim! May the Lord continue to bless you in your mission. Love, Gustavo.
