Visit to the Police
We registered with the Porto Alegre police today. Yesterday we went to a notary public, and got certified photocopies of our passports and a lot of other papers that we had to give to the police today. The person doing the authentication had to ask me some questions in Portuguese that I had to answer in Portuguese, showing that I knew some of the language. I didn't understand one question at all, and no one could help me. What was my statis? She gave me some hints, singular, casado, divorsada or something like that. Luckily, I finally got it! I'm casado. Casa--house, cassado--married. Whew! This morning we got to the police station soon after it opened and took a number. We waited. We had photos taken, the police looked at our passports, visa application, and the other photcopied papers. They fingerprinted us, we waited, and finally got out in about 2 hours. They are very nice everywhere we go, even at the police station!

Glad to know the Brazilian government thinks you're not a threat to their national security! Guess that is not something to joke about in this day and age. I'll print your posting and mail it to Mother tomorrow. I'm glad you've learned enough Portuguese to pass the test!
Mother is so happy to read your posts via my printer and mailing so please write often!! It's no problem to print and mail to her and she gets so much out of reading about your experiences.
Yeah!! You figured out your blog. Way to go mom. I'm so proud of you.
Now we just need to see some pictures of the apt and the city.
